KFMJ WINS TWO "GOLDIE" AWARDS See Also > BOB KERN INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME
Ketchikan radio station KFMJ-FM struck gold at the Alaska Broadcaster's Association Goldie awards banquet in Anchorage on November 6, bringing home Goldie Awards in 2 different categories.
KFMJ Manager Bob Kern said, "We're really pleased to have been awarded 2 Goldies,"
"The competition was really keen and I'm very proud of the people who contributed their talent to earn these awards for KFMJ," He said.
The Goldie awards are the Alaska version of the "Emmy" awards, recognizing excellence in radio and television broadcasting. The entries are judged by an independent panel of broadcast professionals from across the nation. This year's awards were judged by the Montana Broadcasters Association.
The KFMJ News Department received the "Best Sports Story" award which featured KFMJ News Director Anita Hales interviewing Ketchikan elementary school teacher Angie Taggart following her run in the Knik 200 dog sled race.

KFMJ's also received honors in the "Uniquely Alaskan Program" category for the station's production of a series of programs saluting the 50th Anniversary of Alaska statehood. The programs featured KFMJ News Director Anita Hales, 92-year old Inga Brink singing "Alaska, My Alaska," Florence Busch, and Producer Bob Kern.

In past years, KFMJ morning show personality Bob Kern was named to the Alaska Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame, and KFMJ Sales Manager Julie Slanaker has been selected as ABA Employee of the Year.
KFMJ is Ketchikan's only locally-owned commercial radio station. The station is owned and operated by TLP Communications, Inc., of Ketchikan.
