KFMJ's transmitter is located atop 2600-ft High Mountain, on Gravina Island, across Tongass Narrows, from the city of Ketchikan.

KFMJ leases space from AP&T Wireless, which operates the High Mountain communications reserve. Many local area services utilize the High Mountain site for their communications systems. The users include the Coast Guard, the Forest Service, FAA, cellular phone providers, paging services, broadcasters, and many others.

The weather on High Mountain can be quite severe, with winds sometimes in excess of 100 mph.
